Social Skills
What are social skills?
Social skills (also known as pragmatic language) are the skills we use to socialise and interact with each other, both verbally and non-verbally. Social skills can include verbal speech, gestures, eye-contact, body language, facial expressions and using AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication). We need social skills to build and maintain relationships.

What is a social or pragmatic language difficulty or disorder?
A pragmatic language difficulty or disorder can be characterised by difficulties with knowing how to act in social situations, understanding implied rules when communicating and using social cues to recognise how others are feeling.

How can we help?
At Discover Speech Pathology, we offer speech pathology services to children aged up to 18 years. We work collaboratively with children and their families to assess, identify and treat social communication delays or difficulties. We use standardised assessments and functional observations to support goal setting and develop effective ways to connect children with their family, friends and their wider community.
